The great car insurance scam

For the first time since I started driving I can't afford to pay for my car insurance in one lump sum, so I needed, or thought I needed a pay monthly scheme. Now, most insurers charge about £30 extra for pay monthly, yet Admiral, who I have been with on and off for the past 8 years, wanted an extra £110 on top of the premium. What the hell could warrant that kind of mark up, it's not as if they actually have to do anything, just need a direct debit set up, and the money will paid monthly to them.

Was speaking to my manager about this, and as she had worked in the insurance sector for a while, she stated that the insurance company would be charged about £8 for a direct debit to be set up, so Admiral have gone from an £8 charge to them to £110 for me, the customer, well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out I cancelled the policy with them, and eventually found a competitive quote from RAC, with the option of making two six monthly payments, and at no extra cost to me, so there we go I'm now insured by the RAC.
