Long live Star Trek.
In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, it’s the welcome news I’ve just read on Dark Horizons, that Paramount is handing over ST to J.J. Abrams for the eleventh film in the franchise. Abrams, most famous for the hit TV series Lost and Alias, has just directed MI:III, which is currently receiving good reviews. Perhaps this is just the man to re-invent the franchise.
According to the report, which can be read here, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, the two people most trekkies blame for the franchise’s demise, will NOT be involved in the new film.
Although I’m pleased that ST will be coming back, there’s a part of me that thinks they should have waited another year or so. Though I suppose as they’re aiming for a 2008 release it will be a few more years, but still, that’s only going to be about a 3 year gap. Not really long enough for fans to forget how bad the franchise had become in it’s dying days.
