SOCA

Yesterday saw the official launch of the new SOCA, Serious and Organised Crime Agency. Basically, the UK's answer to America's FBI. Supposedly set up to tackle the Mr Big's of the criminal world, and to work with international agencies to help stop drug/people trafficking.

What has shocked me about this, is the amount of people, british citizens, seemingly oposed to the new non-police crime agency. Personaly, I believe this agency is a good thing, at the moment we have squabling between the various forces when there's a 'national' crime, or when a crime crosses borders, there's a lack of forces sharing information, hence the various mistakes that have had disastrous consequences in recent years, and finally because they are a non-police crime agency, there's a hope that they'll be able to do things that perhaps the police cannot currently do because of all the beuracratic red tape.
