Unsettling events

Things have been a little strange at work over the last few days….to say the least. I work at the hospital in Hornchurch where, Cheryl Moss, a nurse for some 17 years, was murdered last Thursday. To say it frightened people is an understatement, most were completely shocked by the events, not just because it happened where we work, but because a lot of people use the park, go over there with their children on their days off etc, and of course I was no different. My sister quite often goes over that park with her two year old son Thomas, and to know something like that has happened there…well, it’s quite unsettling.

There was a major police presence on Thursday and Friday of last week, monitoring/recording when people came and went from the site, I think it helped ease some people’s fears. I think the strangest thing about it all was seeing the press gathered around the gates, it was truly like something out of a film or TV show. Dozens of press officers, with their pads, recording devices, TV cameras. Apparently some of the press were ‘bothering’ members of staff, trying to get that ‘exclusive’ report. That to me was the most unsettling thing, seeing this invasion of privacy, the lack of respect the press have for people’s lives. Yes, this was a big story, but people, the staff were in shock over what had happened, it was almost surreal, not quite believing that it could and had happened right here.

Thankfully, the police have arrested a ‘suspect’ and he has been charged with murder, and will be appearing in court on July 17th at the old bailey.

Man charged
